• Happy Easter!

As I write this, bright and early on Easter Saturday, the day looks set to be a little cloudy, but with no rain. This is good leaflet-delivering weather, which is precisely what I’m going to be doing today.

We have a batch of leaflets going out today, including a flyer for my mayoral campaign. In case you’re interested, I’ve put a button on this page so that you can download it, if you wish.

Today, we’re having a day of action in Preston, delivering leaflets and putting up a table (probably at the junction of Torquay Road with Headland Park Road and Seaway Road, wind permitting!).

Preston is another of my favourite places in our Bay. A couple of years ago, we managed to get to the top of the waiting list for a beach hut there (we didn’t want a beach hut anywhere else!). Unfortunately, between running a local business and council engagements, we got to enjoy it just seven times throughout the whole season – and three of those were for evening fish-and-chip suppers with family and friends. So the cost-per-use worked out in excess of £50 per visit … ouch!

Given that the following year, I was to be Chairman of the Council and knew I would be spending a great deal of time out and about in the Bay, we knew that we just wouldn’t get to be there very often. I don’t know about you, but spending around £500 per year for something you aren’t using seems completely daft; plus we knew that there was/is a long waiting list and that another couple, or a family, would get much better use out of it.

On the few occasions we managed it, a day out at Preston Sands was perfect. And if we fancy one this summer, we know that we just have to get there early to book a council hut from the beach manager …

I wish you all a very Happy Easter - I know that for many of you that this is the most important Christian festival of the year – and if you see me out and about, in Preston or elsewhere else, do say hello!
